Phillies acquire Jesmuel Valentin from Dodgers

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Phillies have acquired 20-year-old middle infielder Jesmuel Valentin from the Los Angeles Dodgers as the first of two players to be named for pitcher Roberto Hernandez.
Valentin is the son of former major-league infielder Jose Valentin. The younger Valentin is primarily a second baseman. He hit .282 with seven homers, 47 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 107 games for the Dodgers' Single A Midwest League team before being sent to the Phillies.
Valentin was the 51st overall pick in the 2012 draft.
Hernandez was traded to the Dodgers earlier this month. In addition to Valentin, the Phillies will get another minor leaguer in the deal. The team has yet to decide on that player.
